Eden Market and What Economic Empowerment Really Means to Survivors

Economic Empowerment is not only creating financial independence in order to sustain a reasonable standard of living, it also reduces vulnerability of being re-exploited. Through Economic Empowerment, self-esteem will be re-born, mental health will improve, new skills will be developed and safe and supportive partnerships will be created. It allows survivors to focus on their healing journey rather than how they will meet the basic needs of life. Economic Empowerment is distributed greatly through Eden Market.

For myself, Eden Market has given me a purpose. Before coming into Eden Market, I was very insecure about my work ethic. I had no idea what it took to become a part of society again. My skills were limited and the world as I once knew was no longer there. I knew my determination for living a healthy life was right in front of me, however it was my fear of failing that gave me sway. Those thoughts of failing never had a chance to settle. I was provided with the utmost support and encouragement along with job readiness training, financial literacy education, and a trauma informed approach that has helped me to exceed even my own expectations. The work to retrain my brain was not an easy task, but it has helped me see that I too am worthy.

Economic Empowerment and Eden Market has not only helped me, but countless others. Being able to grow within an organization that has helped plant the seed of life within myself and many others is the epitome of Economic Empowerment. I work alongside amazing women who are genuinely happy with their healing journey, who love being innovative, willing and opportunistic. I now have a sense of fulfillment and self appreciation because not only did I survive, but now, I get the chance to live.
